Every year and in each of the prisons of the Spanish territory is celebrated the feast of Our Lady of Mercy, patron saint of prisoners, and in them is often the case that management organizes conferences, workshops, exhibitions, concerts, dances and other recreational events serve to inmates.
This year, as the aforementioned inaugural festivities, the Cultural Association of Flamenco Art and City of Cartagena, on the 16th, in collaboration with the prison of Campos del Rio, an event took place which offered a flamenco performance by several artists in our region.
For I am a lawyer, the idea of ​​organizing a conference of this type occurred at the beginning of 2011, when we visited Sangonera prison, fellow of the School of Legal Practice of Cartagena, and was there in that moment, when take this opportunity to propose to the deceased former director of the same, Francisco Marín, an act which serve as entertainment to the inmates.
Don Francisco Marín accepted without hesitation, not least because this was a great lover of flamenco, but, to be honest, because of his unexpected death, the project never got made.
Today, thanks to the kindness of the Deputy Director for Management of the prison, and the collaboration of officials and monitors occupational center, at the end those good intentions former director of Sangonera been fulfilled as he deserved, and also successfully.
Regarding the artistic act, the internal hundred who packed the auditorium of the prison had the opportunity to hear the talk that we offered on flamenco, and in our discussion we were able to explain that in this art, we, in our region, we enjoy some original songs that were classified by Antonio Grau Dauset, and later recovered and recorded in the singer extensive discography Piñana Antonio Cartagena, Father.
This dissertation was expanded by Doctor in Social Anthropology Jose Sanchez Conesa, who talked about the traditions of men and women from our region, emphasizing that, once, in the celebration of weddings and christenings and holidays, singing and dancing were the main protagonists.
In reference to the artist who performed at the Flemish cultural event, the singer Salvador Salas, accompanied by guitar teacher Manuel Leon, interpreted the Cartagenera Grande, style representative of the city of Cartagena, sing that was created by the late Conchita Penaranda nineteenth century, singing, and, among other styles, a fandango mining, with the song heartbeat, using the form recorded by the master Antonio Piñana.
For the interpretation of the songs originating in Andalusia acted the singer Elijah Knight, a young artist who played, among other songs, a melodious and rhythmic Malaga verdial facetious.
And to close the ceremony, as the finale, acted all artists, who, one after another, and in perfect harmony, were playing various styles from a toná dedicated to García Lorca, through bulerías, and an extensive repertoire of sing.
