The investment exceeds 112 million euros
The First Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba, today opened the prison Murcia II, in the village of Campos del Río.
Perez Rubalcaba was accompanied by Secretary General of Prisons, Mercedes Gallizo.
The new center, which has invested over 112 million euros, with 1,194 cells in 16 residential units, a closed regime, other income, output, and traf and other nurses.
Most cells are equipped for two people.
It also has a kitchen, bakery, laundry, classrooms, library, sports, workshops and a building for internal communications with family or lawyers.
In the construction of Murcia II there have been some changes with respect to other similar prisons.
For example, the cells are nearly 13 square meters, rather than the tens of other centers were first built workshops of cooking and gardening and external staff working in the kitchen will have a dining room.
Murcia II Correctional Center is designed as a small city that is located several buildings to comply with the needs of people interned there to facilitate their reintegration into society while ensuring its safekeeping.
Modules are placed in cells and other spaces in which life develops habitual offenders.
They are divided into two floors and each has a porch.
On the ground floor is the living room, dining room, a commissary, medical consultation, an occupational workshop, a small gym, classrooms and a hairdresser.
In the first and second floors are the cells: 36 per plant equipped for two people.
Four of the 16 residential units are versatile, with 18 cells per plant, which contributes to a better classification of inmates, increased security and intervention in treatment programs.
Cultural facilities, sports and welfare
Murcia II center also has a cultural and recreational area with classrooms for the training of interns, library, auditorium, sports hall, gym and pool.
The building has 64 nursing beds and various consultations for specialty care such as dentistry, orthopedics and radiology.
It has facilities for remote diagnosis and telemedicine, which allows improving care for inmates and reduce the number of shipments to hospitals.
Murcia II is the first center has its own training workshops.
To do this, it has enabled a specific space to develop cooking and gardening workshops, in both its theoretical and practical.
For its part, the production workshops meet the necessary elements for various industrial and manipulated.
The classroom buildings are masonry, tiler, cleaning furniture, painter, plumber, computer, air conditioner maintainer and electrician.
Some of the furniture that makes up the center has been made by inmates working in prison workshops productive.
Laundry, cooking and baking
The new infrastructure has a service area which includes laundry, kitchen and bakery.
In the kitchen, meals are prepared daily, which is then distributed by the various modules over hot cars.
For the first time in Murcia II creates a high external staff working in kitchens.
In the bakery produces bread and bakery products for consumption by inmates.
These facilities occupy paid job of prison inmates.
Murcia II has a specific area for inmates to receive visits from relatives and lawyers.
In the communications building is located 40 booths with room for three people each, 22 rooms for family communication, as many for private visits and a space to conduct lineups.
In the design and construction of the new center will follow the model of bioclimatic architecture, designed to achieve maximum efficiency with minimum impact on the environment.
With Murcia II and the Social Integration Centre "Guillermo Miranda supplementing the prison infrastructure planned for the Region of Murcia since 2004.
