A cinephórum on intellectual disability has been realized with the projection of the film 'They call me Radio' and a later debate.
Full inclusion works since 2016 in the penitentiary centers of the Region of Murcia where it has detected more than 70 cases of people who had not recognized their disability.
More than 300 inmates of the different modules of the Murcia-II penitentiary in Campos del Río have participated in the film forum organized by Plena Inclusión Region of Murcia to better understand the reality of people with intellectual disabilities, which is that of many of their colleagues who are serving sentence there.
Together, they were able to resolve their doubts about the stereotypes and myths that accompany disability, to learn to face it naturally and, above all, to respect the difference in the other.
The film chosen for this activity is 'They call me Radio', which tells the real story of a young man with intellectual disability who managed to integrate himself into his community thanks to the support of a football coach.
He gave him the opportunity to make friends, participate in activities with neighbors of his age, etc.
and to overcome the isolation or mistreatment he suffered until then.
This film and the subsequent debate served to transfer all these situations to their day to day in the center.
The cinephórum was held in the auditorium of the penitentiary center on February 15 and 16, as part of the action of the Full Inclusion Region of Murcia to make visible to people with intellectual disabilities in prisons.
The NGO tries to give them the support they need to live together on equal terms with the rest.
For this reason, its specialized professionals have already detected 70 cases of inmates who did not know that they belonged to this group and face many difficulties on a daily basis.
Full inclusion accompanies them in the process to see this condition recognized and thus access the supports to which they are entitled.
In addition, 67 direct interventions with people with disabilities have been made both individually and in groups in personal development and reeducation activities.
In addition, the professionals of the center and other inmate interns are trained so that the inmates' stay in prison is as appropriate as possible.
All these actions are framed in the program of 'Comprehensive care for the prison population and ex-prisoner with intellectual disability' that is developed in the Region since 2016 and that is funded thanks to the solidarity of the taxpayers who mark the 'X Solidarity' in his Income Tax return and that is managed by the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality.
Full inclusion Region of Murcia is the federation of associations of families of people with intellectual disabilities and development.
It is a non-profit NGO driven by more than 3,000 families and composed of 27 entities throughout the Region of Murcia created by mothers and fathers to defend their rights and have the opportunity to have a full life.
In these associations almost 700 professionals work and more than 300 volunteers collaborate.
